Hello! My name is Missy Johanna Rhysing, welcome to my site and to my offerings. I want to share a little bit about me here so you can get to know me better.
I currently reside in Denver, CO most of the year as well as Minneapolis, MN, my hometown. I was fortunate to grow up for part of my childhood in my Swedish-American grandparents’ home, where I was introduced to some of these Scandinavian folk ways. The remnants of my family’s Swedish heritage consisted of ethnic foods and holiday traditions, some music, stories, and other tidbits; but remembering and reweaving my ancestral heritage has mostly been a reclaiming journey for me.
I have been practicing folk magic, folk medicine, and various spiritual ways since the mid-90’s; beginning with Wicca and moving through a wide variety of traditions. As of early 2018, I have been fortunate to be an apprentice to my mentor in Sweden, a trollcunning man who I consider to be the foremost expert today on Trolldom, our lineage of Scandinavian folk magic and wisdom. I spent about two and a half years in a one-on-one apprenticeship with him, as well as studying with him in group settings after my mentorship. I then spent about 2 years learning with him to teach our tradition, a very rare opportunity I have been humbled to receive. Finding my spiritual tradition within this lineage has felt like coming home.
Along with our lineage teachings, I enjoy sharing ancestral folklore, holy tides and celebrations, folk medicine, and much more with my students. I place great emphasis on personal connections with the lands and spirits, personal growth, and the ways in which we can incorporate folk ways into our modern lives. By working with these traditions, we can reconnect with our ancestors as well as develop relationships with the lands we live on in meaningful ways. I hope my offerings help to forge connections that deeply benefit us as euro-descendant Americans, whom so often feel unrooted in our ancestral and ethnic traditions.
